Gerald Butler never fails to deliver – and this thrilling action/drama is no exception – he plays a father struggling to reunite and save his family amidst the apocalypse. As the planet is facing the arrival of an earthbound comet that will cause mass destruction, the family fights for its survival. Co-star Morena Baccarin plays John’s (Gerard Butler’s) wife, the couple is being estranged – with no elaboration on the reasons for this. Unlike Butler’s other movies in the action genre, he isn’t portrayed as a superhero type but rather he plays an ordinary guy with no special skills besides knowing how to drive.

Following the recent trend of live-action reboots of old Disney animated movies, this is an adaptation of the 1998 animated historical musical movie ‘Mulan’. With many delays in it’s release date – fans were eager to finally watch. The storyline more or less follows the original movie, with a few small changes – we follow a fearless young maiden Han Mulan disguising herself as a man to save her father from serving in the army. The writers tried to bring to life more aspects of the original Chinese ballad, though it was not meant to be historically accurate. Nonetheless, the movie is pleasing to the eyes, and entertaining.

Available on Disney+, and Amazon Prime Video.

Although there are many similarities between her character and the one she played in the 2008 movie ‘Hancock’, she has played an entirely different personality. As the leader of the Old Guard, a team of immortal mercenaries, she must fight to keep their freedom as a new member is discovered. With a number of knockout scenes, it received generally positive reviews.
